The "F" Word

Feminism, like all other –ism’s, can be described in many ways and is specifically addressed in women’s studies.  Global women’s studies is a feminist endeavor and considers feminism as a commitment to changing the structures that keep women lower in status and power. Although feminist are generally stereotyped and misunderstood, I do identify myself as a feminist. I believe women should be equal participants with men at all levels of society despite the negative connotation this may bring as being labeled a  “man-hater” or “anti-family”.

Strong representatives of the women’s movement and other women’s rights campaigns may be to blame for the negative view most people have of feminism, but if it weren’t for extremist, there wouldn’t be much progress in untangling the unequal society we live in.Women’s equality is an issue internationally, especially in less industrialized and modern parts of the world such as the Middle East, Latin America, Asia, and Africa. I would like to be a raging feminist working for the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan and kick some Afghan male chauvinist ass! Girl Power!
