Power

There exist several types of leaders in the world, ranging from social, academic, and religious managers. Each leader harbors differing amounts of responsibility and influence depending on their field of expertise. Undoubtedly, one of the most significant spheres of impact on a governance scale involves politics. Politics affects all citizens of a country; therefore anyone in a position of political power possesses massive power.
A political role is an esteemed position for anyone, but especially a woman. Throughout world history, female oppression, waged by a male-dominated society, plagued women everywhere.  For example, most women around the world were not granted the right to vote until the beginning of the twentieth century. Thus, their voices became silent. They garnered no representation in government falsely committed to serving them and their basic needs.
Unsurprisingly, when countries granted women with suffrage and the right to hold public offices, the authority of women skyrocketed. For instance, Margaret Thatcher, was one of the most influential and inspiring women of the twentieth century. Incidentally, the British people voted her as the first female prime minister of Great Britain. This incident completely altered Britain forever. First of all, this election personified Britain’s changing social perception of women as equals and as valuable rather than inferior to men. Thatcher’s election also exemplifies a method of practicality in that she originated from a working class family, and this upbringing enabled her to propose adequate fiscal policies for the citizens of the United Kingdom.
In the United States, South Carolina’s current governor is Nikki Haley. Haley remains the only woman to every serve as governor to this great state. Therefore, this election is monumental in that she is the first female governor to serve the state of South Carolina. Furthermore, Haley is of Middle Eastern descent, making her the first female governor and first non-Caucasian governor of South Carolina.  Besides symbolic reasons, Haley’s governorship is truly practical in that she relates to the women of the state of South Carolina. She also adds a new face with novel concepts to the conservative and Republican movements in South Carolina. She is truly an inspiration. Reelect Nikki Haley for Governor!

You are right, for a women to hold a political position, it is much more prestigious than a man. It is weird that women were only allowed to vote in recent US history, which does show the less power women have over men. With women not being able to vote, their voices were not heard, and gender inequality was at an all time high. I love your use of Margaret Thatcher as an example of a political leader. I have heard so much about her and she is such a good example of a great woman leader. Nikki Haley is also a great example. I actually met her in Columbia before she gave a speech in 2012. She was a great speaker and the policies she spoke for as South Carolina Governor were amazing. She really is a great role model for women and I am so glad she represents our state. I agree, Reelect Nikki Haley for Governor!

  2. I am also a Nikki Haley fan because she is such a great role model in all aspects. Every time a negative story or allegation comes out about her, she addresses the situation and always keeps a positive image. She has opened many doors for women throughout South Carolina and I predict the political involvement of women in the state will increase dramatically now.
